Prof. Dr. Stephan Borrmann

Die Abteilung Partikelchemie ist eine gemeinsame Einrichtung des Max-Planck-Instituts für Chemie und des Instituts für Physik der Atmosphäre der Johannes-Gutenberg Universität Mainz. Wir untersuchen die physikalischen Eigenschaften und die chemische Zusammensetzung von atmosphärischen Aerosol- und Wolkenpartikeln. Hierzu führen wir zum Beispiel Laborexperimente in einem vertikalen Windkanal durch und messen auf Boden- und Bergstationen und auf mobilen Messträgern insbesondere auf Flugzeugen. Weiterhin entwickeln wir Methoden, Aerosole durch Massenspektrometrie zu bestimmen. Mithilfe von Isotopenmessungen analysieren wir extraterrestrische Partikel wie beispielsweise präsolare Staubkörner aus Meteoriten und von Kometen.
