Stellenangebot vom 13. April 2026
The Max Planck Institute for Chemistry researches the Earth and its environment across a wide range of
scales, from the nanoparticle to the planet and from ecosystem dynamics to global climate change.
In the Department of Aerosol Chemistry, we are seeking, at the earliest possible date, a
Technical-Scientific Staff Member (f/m/d)
Your tasks:
- Support scientific research groups in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of laboratory, chamber, field, and aircraft measurement campaigns for the investigation of aerosols;
- Development, construction, and operation of advanced chemical ionization mass spectrometry and single-particle aerosol mass spectrometry techniques, with a particular focus on particles in the size range from a few nanometers up to approximately 20–50 nm;
- Integration and application of advanced aerosol and mass spectrometric instrumentation, including high-resolution and Orbitrap-based approaches where appropriate;
- Development, application, and provision/communication of methods and data analysis software for the above-mentioned purposes, as well as for the investigation of gas–aerosol interfaces and related systems and processes;
- Carrying out technical, technical-scientific, and technical-administrative activities to support the work of the department and the institute.
Your qualifications:
- Diploma in a natural science or technical discipline, as well as experience and expertise in the following fields of activity:
- Setup and operation of chemical ionization mass spectrometers and single-particle aerosol massspectrometers;
- Development of aerosol measurement systems and sampling devices, in particular single-particle mass spectrometers, including design and approval for operation on research aircraft;
- Experience with advanced mass spectrometric instrumentation, including high-resolution and/or Orbitrap-based systems, is desirable;
- Development and application of software for the above-mentioned purposes (Igor, LabView, Python, MATLAB, V25, and/or vBus), as well as algorithms for the evaluation and further processing of multidimensional data sets using suitable informatics resources;
- Planning and implementation of laboratory, chamber, field, and aircraft measurement campaigns for the investigation of atmospheric aerosol particles and trace gases, including the setup of measurements under challenging climatic and logistical conditions (including rainforest and coastal measurement stations and aircraft);
- Carrying out interdisciplinary research projects between chemistry, physics, and geosciences;
- Cooperation between technical and scientific institutions, as well as with internationally composed working groups, cooperative projects, and partners.
- Remuneration and social benefits are governed by the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD).
The Max Planck Society has set itself the goal of employing more severely disabled people. Applications from severely disabled people are expressly welcome. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Women are therefore expressly encouraged to apply.
