If you regard yourself as fluent in spoken and written English, the scores in an English test are not the most important criterion to rank an application. However, in order to give you an estimate what an acceptable score means, you may use the following benchmark:

TOEFL: Test of English as Foreign Language

»   paper-based test - overall score above 555 (of 677)

»   inter-based test - overall score above 215 (of 300)

»   test of Written English (TWE, essay) - score of at least 4.0

»   internet-based - overall score above 82 (of 120)

IELTS: International English Language Testing System

»
a minimum score of 6.0 in all four sections (of 9.0)

There is no specific deadline for application. If you fulfill these requirements please send your application to:

MPI for Chemistry
c/o Karin Sulsky
PCGS Coordinator
Hahn-Meitner Weg 1
55020 Mainz
Germany

If you apply without fulfilling the conditions or following the guidelines we kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot reply.

After the decision on admittance it may be required to submit your thesis (in English) and you are invited to Mainz for an interview. Traveling costs will be reimbursed by the PCGS. For people coming from far abroad an interview via Skype or Phone may be more reasonable.

On admission you will have to enroll at the university which best fits your research goals. However, please note that the MPI or PCGS cannot grant the title of a PhD. Therefore, the requirements of the university to be admitted as candidate for graduation have to be fulfilled. This is typically a master degree.

Specific applications to open positions please address directly to the group leader mentioned in the particular description. Current job opportunities MPIC.
