I have a broad research interest in atmospheric chemistry, including but not limited to (a) sources, chemistry, and impacts of atmospheric reactive nitrogen; (b) the interaction between the biosphere and the atmosphere; and (c) wildfire emissions and their impact on regional air quality and global climate. My work involves ground and airborne (aircraft and balloon) measurements. I also employ model approaches to understand such observations.
Vita
As an atmospheric chemist, I am trying to understand the processes that cause air pollution and climate change utilizing laboratory experiments, field campaigns, and modeling. I am particularly focusing on the source of reactive nitrogen species (nitrogen oxides, nitrous acid, nitrate radical, etc.) and the way they regulate the atmospheric oxidizing capacity, which determines the lifetime of greenhouse gases (methane, etc.), the removal of primary pollutants (nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, etc.) and the formation of secondary pollutants (aerosols, ozone, etc.). Another focus is biomass burning emissions. Through combining field measurements and modeling, I quantify greenhouse gas emissions and the impact on regional air quality of biomass burning events. Also, I have participated in and led many international collaborations between France, Germany, and China.
