The Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is led by four directors: Yafang Cheng, Eric A. Kort, Gerald H. Haug (Executive Director), and Ulrich Pöschl.
The organizational structure of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is divided into the four departments headed by the directors and their respective group leaders, two independent research groups, and the shared facilities.

The Department of Aerosol Chemistry consists of the following groups:
