Our research focuses on sources and processes that control aerosol properties in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) region with global-scale implications for climate and UTLS chemistry. We study the aerosol composition across a wide range of environments, from tropical monsoon to extratropical regions. To do this, we use aircraft-based observations, aerosol mass spectrometry, air mass history modelling and laboratory studies. This team is jointly affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the University Mainz.
