PhD student in global air quality and climate modelling

The Atmospheric Chemistry Department of the Max Planck Planck Institute for Chemistry and the Institute for Atmospheric Physics of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz solicit applications for a PhD student in global atmospheric chemistry – climate modelling. Candidates can propose a research topic, in line with experience and interests. The project can be technical (code development, data analysis), fundamental (process focused), applied (global change) or policy oriented.

We offer an interdisciplinary research environment on global air quality and climate change, and the possibility to join programs of the Paul Crutzen Graduate School (https://www.mpic.de/3538568/pcgs-paul-crutzen-graduate-school) and the Max Planck Graduate Center (https://www.mpgc-mainz.de), and participate in international projects and conferences.

Payment and benefits will be according to the German TVöD salary scale (65% E13). There is no tuition fee.

Applicants need to hold a master degree in natural sciences, preferably with atmospheric environmental orientation, have experience with numerical methods, computational techniques, be interested in high performance computing, and have strong English language skills.
