The atmospheric modelling group solicits applications for a research scientist to contribute to the CATALYSE project (https://www.isglobal.org/en/-/catalyse-project-horizon-europe).Candidates should have an interest in health impacts of air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, climate change and numerical modeling. The position is available in a dynamic and international team of researchers.
Topics: The candidate will model the interrelationships between climate change and air quality under the policy scenarios developed with European partner institutions and quantify the implications for public health, including excess mortality attributed to air pollution as well as climate feedbacks using comparative risk assessment methods. Policy scenarios in view of potential co-benefits from climate change mitigation measures for public health will be evaluated, quantifying the impacts of European policies on air pollution attributable mortality in European populations as well as outside of Europe.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a PhD degree in Meteorology or related field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry), be a proficient programmer, be familiar with Linux/UNIX environments and good knowledge of the English language. Experience with public health aspects related to air quality and climate change will be of advantage.
Working location: The Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (MPIC) offers excellent research infrastructure and is a leading institute in atmospheric chemistry research.
