The Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is located on the campus of the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.
By Plane
Mainz is serviced by the Frankfurt Airport. From the long-distance railway station at the AIRail Terminal, right next to Terminal 1, take the IC / ICE to "Mainz Hauptbahnhof" (Hbf). Or, from the local train station in the lower level of the airport (Terminal 1), take the commuter train (S-Bahn) S 8, direction Wiesbaden, to the main train station "Mainz Hauptbahnhof" (Hbf). You will reach the main station within about 20 minutes. You must buy a ticket in advance from one of the vending machines labelled RMV or at the counter. No tickets are sold in the train.
By Train
Mainz Hauptbahnhof is serviced daily by several Intercity (IC), Eurocity (EC) and Intercity Express (ICE) trains.
By Tram (Mainzelbahn)
Exit the Mainz Hauptbahnhof, Tram Nr. 51 or 53 - direction Lerchenberg
Tram lines 51, 53 or 59 - Stop at "Jakob-Heinz-Straße/Arena" , pass the Hochschule Mainz and cross the bridge. On the left hand side you will see our Institute.

By Car
Please note the following information about the green zone in Mainz and Wiesbaden starting on 1st February 2013: Environmental badge
From the south via the "Autobahn" A60. Take the exit Mainz-Lerchenberg (exit 20). Turn right onto "Koblenzer Straße" and keep in the left lane. Before the fifth traffic light, turn right in the direction "Universität" to arrive at the main entrance of the university.
From the north via the "Autobahn" A60. Take the exit Mainz-Finthen (exit 19) and follow the sign "Innenstadt". After passing the roundabout "Europaplatz" take the next left in the direction of "Bretzenheim" and "Universität". Turn left at the traffic light and again at the next traffic light to arrive at the main entrance of the university.
If you use an electronic navigation system it may be advantageous to enter “Duesbergweg, 55128 Mainz”, because the “Hahn-Meitner-Weg” is so new, it
may not be contained yet in the data base.
