Kangerlussuaq, June/July 2008

POLARCAT-France was a part of the international project POLARCAT, in the framework of the International Polar Year. During the POLARCAT-France summer campaign 2008, aircraft based measurements were performed out of Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (67°00′38″ N, 50°42′33″ W), with the objective to investigate the pollutant transport pathways to the Arctic, with respect to European outflow, Canadian and Siberian boreal forest fires.
The French ATR aircraft (operated by SAFIRE) was equipped with various in-situ aerosol instrumentation, an ozone lidar, an aerosol lidar as well as CO and O3 trace gas measurements. In parallel, the German Falcon of DLR conducted the project POLARCAT-GRACE at Kangerlussuaq, partly with coordinated research flights.
