NETCARE

(NETwork on Climate and Aerosols: Addressing Key Uncertainties in Remote Canadian Environments)

July 2014, Resolute, Canada

NETCARE focused on the Arctic and Western Canada in order to target aerosol sources and processes most important in areas remote from industrial influences.  The Arctic is an area of focus given its extreme sensitivity to pollutant input and as a bellwether of climate change. Observations extend across the Arctic from land stations, an icebreaker, and a research aircraft.

We (joint project of Peter Hoor (JGU Mainz) and my research group) participated in the NETCARE-2014 field campaign at Resolute, Nunavut, Canada (74°41′51″N 094°49′56″W), July 2 - 23, 2014. Measurement platform was the research aircraft Polar 6 of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). Local support and logistics (accomodation) were provided by the Polar Continental Shelf Program (PSCP). Integration and de-integration took place at Muskoka (near Toronto).
